Tell us a little bit about the story behind your company
With over a decade working in the design industry and after designing wedding stationery for friends, as well as my own big day in 2014, I decided to create a service for style savvy couples that wanted something a bit different for their big day. LoveLi was born and I haven’t looked back. The name LoveLi is derived from my nickname name ‘Li’. Combined with love it makes the perfect double entendre as I aim to design and make ‘lovely’ things.
Speaking of love, what attracted you to Love & Lilah?
I sell a lot on Etsy and to have a marketplace that is dedicated to British wedding suppliers just seemed like a fabulous idea that was crying out to be done. I am a bit of a design snob (comes with the job) when it comes to website design and the look and feel of Love & Lilah was beautiful and I knew instantly the brand fit was perfect.
Ah, thank you. And what do you most enjoy about the wedding industry?
I love how supportive the majority of fellow suppliers are. I can honestly say I have made some lifelong friends through the industry.
And what are your thoughts on Buying British?
I believe we should support our industries and I personally always seek out smaller UK providers of items I need. All the LoveLi printing is done in the UK which I am very proud of.
That’s fantastic. What would you say to someone who was thinking of starting their own business?
Prepare to work hard. It may look fine and rosy on the surface but it takes a lot of man hours and effort to get to where you want to be. There are times you will long for that 9 to 5 day back but it’s worth it in the end to have something you can be proud of, that you’ve built yourself.
And finally, any advice for those who are getting married?
Yes. Plan the day you want and make sure you stick to it. Along the line there will be people wanting to have their two penneth and opinion on things but stay true to who you are as a couple. You only get to do it once so make it the day you want, not other peoples.
Great advice. Thanks, Lianne.
